The Water Resources group manages the use of irrigation water throughout the San Luis Valley. Water rights are assigned with priorities for each ditch. The Rio Grande river is measured everyday and depending upon the flow certain ditches will be on or off, and the water amount they receive will fluctuate. The oldest water rights will stay on the longest with a low river, some dating back to the 1870's. On November 1st the water was shut off for the irrigation season; until next spring!
