branding.

Branding the calves is a big day.  We started late on the day before branding and rounded up the pairs on horseback.  Early the next morning after enjoying fresh sticky buns we started the long day of branding over 200 calves.  The process consists of sorting the calves into a group, pushing them individually through the chute and giving them shots, castrating the boys and giving each a brand for our family ranch. 

It is a smelly task and physically exhausting.  The second day of branding we had nearly 50 calves and it seemed like a breeze in comparison to the first day! 

Now our babies are ready for the summer range!
